High temperature and humidity are common during Grain Buds. The increase in temperature over this season may also give rise to nettle rash, rheumatism, sweat spots, eczema and other skin diseases.
Ancient medical scientists in China knew about this and have attributed it to three reasons. Firstly, high humidity in the air causes wind-heat or coldness. Secondly, accumulated heat in intestines and stomach cause ailment .Thirdly, allergies caused from eating fish and shrimp, which in turn causes incoordination between the spleen and the stomach. Nettle rash can occur quickly on any part of the body. Rashes of different sizes and itches varying in severity will start appearing on the skin. The degree of itching is dependent on if the weather is hot or cool. After the cause of the rash is ascertained, we are able to take relevant treatments and other preventative measures.
People sweat a lot over the summer period, causing their clothes to go from wet, to dry and then wet again in a matter of minutes. This will cause the appearance of sweat spots. Unconsciously, people would start finding the appearance of white spots on their bodies and their eyebrows would suddenly seem to have grown sparse. As soon as this happens, the person should start seeking medical help.
For those who enjoy wearing tight-fitting clothes, they should be careful of eczema. Eczema is not to be ignored, as it makes the skin sensitive and turns it completely red.
Sunburn is another thing to look out for during the summer months, which is caused from prolonged exposure under strong sunlight. It often takes about four or six hours for the sunburn to show and reaches its peak after 12-24 hours. Severe sunburn causes headache, nausea and vomiting. One prevention measure is to take part in more outdoor activities to increase the skin’s tolerance of sunshine. For those who have low tolerance, long-time exposure should be avoided. One option for them is to wear broad-brimmed hats with light-colored long-sleeved clothes.
As the temperature heats up, people often keep cool by drinking cold drinks. This is not acceptable, as excess cold drinks may make one ill, such as stomachache, especially in children. It may also lead to headache or even severe headache. Pharyngeal inflammation can be caused and in turn results in throat inflammation and pain. For people who have chronic bronchitis, having too many cold drinks will cause acute attack of bronchitis. So it is important to exercise control when indulging yourself on cold drinks.
It is also important to do sports to keep healthy during the hot summer days. Exercisers should get a good night’s rest before heading out in the morning for their exercise. It’s better to do exercises in the morning. Walking, jogging and practicing Taijiquan (a kind of traditional Chinese shadow boxing) are preferred. Exercises should not be done between the hours of 11 am.and 4 pm. when it is hot. Heavy activities should be avoided in summer. When doing exercises outdoor, attention must be paid towards sun protection. After doing exercise, you can refresh yourself by taking a warm bath and lying down for a bit of rest.
