The TCM Museum of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was completed in September 1990. It is a professional museum with rich collections and systematic contents. It is divided into the Department of Medical History and the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There is a comprehensive exhibition hall for the history of TCM, with an exhibition area of about 1,500 square meters.
The Department of Medical History collects more than 1,000 pieces of medical relics and more than 200 kinds of good medical books from all generations. With Chinese culture as the background and the history of Chinese medicine as the main line, the exhibition hall of the history of Chinese medicine reproduces the achievements of the Chinese medicine including the medicine of ethnic minorities through the medical relics of various periods.
The Department of Chinese Medicine has a collection of more than 50000 herbal specimens of over 2850 kinds. The exhibits include a comprehensive exhibition hall for Chinese medicine and an exhibition window for medicinal animals. The comprehensive exhibition hall displays 600 kinds of commonly used Chinese medicines from plants, animals and minerals, nearly 2,000 specimens of Chinese medicines. Both original herbs and corresponding concocted tablets are displayed. There are also more than 300 kinds of peeled specimens of medicinal animals and macerated specimens of medicinal plants, waxed leaf specimens, embedding specimens and hundreds of color photographs of medicinal plants.
