In the Tianning Temple stands the tallest multi-eaved brick pagoda in downtown Beijing. It was built 890 years ago in the 9th year of the Tianqing era (1119) in the Liao dynasty, and is the oldest ground building in Beijing. Whenever it is stormy, 3,600 wind chimes ring with the sound of rusting pines, making it unforgettable for countless literati and scholars.
