Looking from distance, you can find that the layout of Cuandixia Village fully follows the fengshui theory, as evidenced by the size of principal room and wing room, and the location of gate tower and axis. For each building, the architectural concept is the same. In terms of technique, each detail was well designed and built. Different from houses in other places, east and west wing rooms in the village are indented towards the center of compounds to reduce occupied area. In a two-entrance courtyard, festoon gate is replaced by house on the central axis connecting inner chambers and outer ones, meaning to enhance land use rate. Such a house has two second gates on east side and gate on southeast corner of the front yard. Rain water is drained through a hole on the left side of the gate. In courtyards, most principal rooms and reversely-set houses have four beams and eight columns, and wing rooms have three beams and six columns. Walls are consolidated on four corners, and roofs are equipped with clear water ridge.
