Covering an area of 3,000 square meters (more than 3,600 square yards), the Shanghai Natural Wild Insect Kingdom, a Sino-Singapore joint venture, is situated in Fenghe Road in the Pudong New Area, next to the Oriental Pearl Tower. It is a popular science exhibition hall which combines tourism, admiration and popular science education as a whole. The exhibits are mainly live insects as well as amphibians and reptiles. With more than 300 species of live & sample exhibits, it is the first museum of its kind in the nation.

The Shanghai Natural Wild Insect Kingdom is unique as many different insect species from different environments can be found there. In addition, one can make his own insect specimen himself and at the same time, fully enjoy the pleasure that nature brings. Children can catch fish and feed small animals in order to get to know more about nature.

At Present, the museum is divided into different sections such as: Ecological Garden, Insect Gallery, Ecological Touching Area, Amphibians & Reptiles Cave, Water Touching Area, Tropical Rain Forest Area and Classroom of Popular Science. Each section has its own theme and exhibition.

Insect Gallery
Insect is the oldest species and the largest family on earth. Every kind of insects in the gallery is well illustrated, with respect to reproductions, their habits, classifications and definitions. The most representative is the Stick Insect, which looks very much like a sprig when not in motion. It is a night awl, because in daytime, it just stays quietly in the branches. Its larvae are usually produced in the branches and take one to two years to hatch. Some can even reproduced asexually, meaning that they can spawn without mating.

Testudinate Area
Housing the most complete varieties in the country, there are more than 80 species of rare turtles like tortoise, terrapin, mud turtle and box turtle, etc. Now it opens up a communication platform for turtle lovers so that they can have better communication conveniently. A special area is set for turtle fans to communicate and exchange experience on feeding turtles.

Ecological Touching Area
This area exhibits a variety of rare pet animals in the world and visitors can touch them. Children can feed the animals and try to understand more about them.

Specimen Laboratory
The area is one of the specialties of the museum. Its specialty lies in that visitors can make specimens all by themselves. Children may get close to nature and understand the physiological structure of the insect, and make frames or brackets for their specimens as a souvenir.

Butterfly Exhibition Area
This area is designed by a famous Japanese insect expert, who in 2004 sent to the museum more than 30 boxes of rare butterfly specimens collected from around the world. The butterfly specimens in the museum are still growing.

Tropical Rain Forest Audio-visual Experience Zone
Visitors will fully experience the feature of tropical rain forest in the museum for it imitates the sight and sound of the forest vividly.

Serpent & Python Zone
The most distinctive one in this area is the Pantherophis Guttatus, also called the Common Corn Snake. It is so named for it feeds on rats that steal corns during the harvesting season. Common Corn Snake is a kind of meek animal; making it a very popular pet snake. It can live for more than 20 years under artificial feeding condition.

Frog Zone
There are big frog, poison dart frog and other species. "Little tadpoles looking for mom" activities let the children really know who the tadpole's mother is and the number of pests it can eliminate in its life. It will make people realize that we should protect such beneficial animal.
