Jingyuetan National Forest Park

 Jingyuetan National Forest Park, near Changchun Movie Wonderland in the southeast of Changchun, 18 kilometers (10 miles) from the city center, occupies an area of around 96.38 square kilometers (37.2 square miles), with approximately 5.3 square kilometers (2 square miles) of wetlands.

Jingyuetan is a crescent shaped reservoir. Comparable to Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan in stature, it is hailed as its sister lake. According to a legend, a fairy from the heaven fell in love with a human by chance. The fairy’s mother brought her back by force. The grieving fairy left two drops of her tears which formed lakes, one being the Sun Moon Lake and the other Jingyuetan. On records Jingyuetan was built in 1934 to supply water for Changchun city. It was so named by Zheng Yu, the second son of Zheng Xiaoxu, once the prime minister of the Manchukuo (State of Manchuria).

Jingyuetan National Forest Park has abundant natural resources. It includes a large husbanded forest of more than 80 square kilometers (30 square miles). More than 550 kinds of trees proper in the park, such as Scots pine, larch, Korean pine, Japanese red pine, spruce, fir, birch, Mongolian oak and Manchurian walnut. In addition, there are a variety of birds, wild animals and insects, like pheasant, wild duck, squirrel, hedgehog, roe deer and fox.

The Jingyuetan National Forest Park features the Forest Bathing Spot, Jingyue Wetland, Siberian Tiger Garden, Guantan Hill, Green Pine Ridge, Jingyue Goddess Statue, Lotus and Willow Garden, Bisong Jingyue Tower, Peace Bell Tower, a boardwalk, a tomb of Jin Dynasty (1115 - 1234) on Stone Sheep and Tiger Hill, Jingyuetan Reservoir, Vasaloppet Museum, Wangtan Bridge, North Putuo Temple and a snow sculpture garden as its main attractions. For sports enthusiasts, there are a golf course and a ski resort inside the park.
 
Forest Bathing Spot
As the main attractions in Jingyuetan National Forest Park, Forest Bathing Spot is famed as a natural oxygen bar. The negative oxygen ions in this area are 400 times greater than that in the downtown area. Negative oxygen ions are very important to human body's metabolism and strength human immunity. You can breathe in the fresh air, have a picnic and even camp there.
 
Jingyue Wetland
Lying between the Xiliu Bridge and Heyan Bridge, Jingyue Wetland consists of the wetland, an overflow dam, a garden area and a slipway. Trees, shrubs, reeds, willows herbs and perennial flowers grow and thrive in the wetland. There is a nesting base for rare birds, like mallards, ruddy shelducks, and swan geese.
 
Siberian Tiger Garden
Not only Siberian tigers but also some other rare animals including African lions, bears, spotted deer and red-crowned cranes are kept in the Siberian Tiger Garden. Visitors can also enjoy many staged animal performances.
 
Jingyue Goddess Statue
Jingyue Goddess Statue is at the center of Jingyue Goddess Square, where major activities of this park are held. Being the landmark of Jingyuetan National Forest Park, Jingyue Goddess Statue is composed of two parts, a 8.2 meters (27 feet) tall naked lady statue and a moon with the diameter of 6 meters (20 feet). Reclining on the moon, the lady rests her head on the left hand with her right hand stretching out. Her hair blows in the wind and her eyes are slightly closed. She is the perfect embodiment of purity and beauty.
 
Bisong Jingyue Tower
Designed by Qi Kang, a famous Chinese architect, Bisong Jingyue Tower is a landmark Jingyuetan National Forest Park. It is upon Guantan Hill. The tower opened its doors to visitors at the 200th anniversary of the birth of Changchun City. Visitors are permitted to climb the tower from the beginning of April to mid November.
 
Vasaloppet Museum
Featuring a floor space of 2,336 square meters (2,793 square yards), Vasaloppet Museum is a two-floor museum that includes the exhibition area, dining area and conference area. It is the first museum in China based on the theme of Vasaloppet, a popular cross-country ski race in the world.

The museum exhibits Dala Horse from the Sweden Pavilion during 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, a pair of one-hundred-year-old snowboards donated by the Swedish Royal Family and some other exotic costumes. Visitors can also find skis marking various design and developmental changes between 1910 and 2010.

Jingyuetan National Forest Park is also chosen for hosting sports activities, such as Vasa International Ski Festival, Forest Marathon Race, Vasa International Forest Hiking Festival, Vasa Orienteering Festival, Mountain Biking Marathon and Dragon Boat Race.

Additionally, Jingyuetan National Forest Park is the main venue for Changchun Ice and Snow Festival. Visitors can enjoy snow sculptures in the Jingyue Snow World and go skiing in the Jingyue Ski Resort during the festival.
 
How to get to Jingyuetan National Forest Park
1. Take subway line 3 and get off at Jingyue Park Station.
2. Take Bus 335 to Jingyue Huaxuechang.
3. Take Bus 102, 334, 335, 337 or 340 to Changying Shijiecheng and you will see the park.
