China National Flower Garden was built in 2001 along the southern bank of Luo River of Luoyang in Henan Province. With an area of 255 acres, it is the largest peony park in China. China National Flower Garden cultivates about 500,000 peonies in 9 colors as well as a further 2,000,000 plants of 1,000 different species. Among them, a huge peony called “Flower Goddess” with an age of100 years and a height of 2 meters (7 feet) gains public attention. April to early May is the most suitable period to witness the scene of peony blossom in China National Flower Garden. Visitors can admire peonies, pavilions, lakes, and hills as well as distinctive buildings there. The history of Sui and Tang dynasties (581–907), traditional royal garden art as well as peony views combine beautifully in China National Flower Garden. Below are the major sightseeing areas.

Garden of Firing Peonies
This spot consists of firing peonies and a square with a huge gourd and three gold-colored balls. There is a legend the peonies were grown up from golden elixirs, which were created with fire by Taishang Laojun, a lord of Taoism, hence the name Firing Peony.
Pavilion of Qiu Weng and the Peony
The inspiration for this pavilion comes from a story Qiu Weng and the Peony. Qiu Weng was a farmer who liked growing peonies and cared for them as if they were his family. This spot is formed by five pavilions –one with two stories and four with one story. Tourists can see various kinds of rare peonies here.
Pavilion of Two-Joe Peony
Two pavilions merge into one in this spot, just like a Two-Joe peony, which is a kind of treasure flower having two different colors. This peony was praised as two beauties called Big Joe and Small Joe in the Chinese Three Kingdom Period (220–265 A.D.).
Yanxiu Lake & Nameless Hill
This lake covers an area of over 5 acres. Weeping willows are waving along its bank and numerous fishes are swimming in it. Visitors can feel the spring when lying on the grass near the lake, or they can stroll along the stone road around the lake. The hill is artificial and has lots of rough caves on it. The waterfall rushing down it makes a stunning scene and brings energy to the whole flower park.
Cultural Garden of Butterfly
This special garden covers an area of more than 2,000 square kilometers (2,400 square yards). It was designed to integrate the butterfly elements into the landscape. During the Peony Culture Festival from April to early May, visitors can see over 20,000 kinds of butterflies dancing around peonies in this area, which is a charming scene.

Luoyang Stone Writing Museum
It is the first and unique private writing museum in Luoyang. It was founded in 2012 by two brothers to preserve, protect, and present the writing relics from different areas and various dynasties. Now more than 2,000 writing relics and samples are housed here.
How to get to China National Flower Garden
1. Take bus 68, 37, 49, 601, 602 southern line, or 77, get off at Mudan Bridge South and get into China National Flower Garden via its West Entrance.
2. Take bus line 65, 15, 33, 66, 69, 78, 57, 61, 76, 52, 55, 58, 53, 81, 93, or 92, get off at the Luoyang Bridge South and get into China National Flower Garden via its Eastern Entrance.
