The Detian Waterfall Scenic Area lies in Daxin, Chongzuo, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, around 145 kilometers (90 miles) from the downtown area of Nanning and neighboring Vietnam. In this scenic area, there are more than 40 tourist attractions. Among those, the most notable one is the Ban Gioc-Detian Falls.
This waterfall crosses the boundary between China and Vietnam and joins with the Ban Gioc Waterfall in Vietnam. With the good name of the World's Second Largest Transnational Waterfall, it goes through three terraces as it flows down from on high. Maybe, you have seen the famous Niagara Falls and the grandness makes a very deep impression on you. Similarly, the vigorous Detian Waterfall gives you a thrilling and majestic sensation.
A Deep Pool Below the Waterfall
Below the Detian Waterfall is a deep pool to a width of more than 200 meters (0.12 miles) and a depth of over 30 meters (0.02 miles). There are a large number of big fish in the pool and the fish meat is very delicious. So, the villagers who live there often come to the pool to catch fish. They usually sing folk songs as they cast the nets. Wild songs echo in the mountains and there is a joyous, carefree and lively atmosphere on these occasions.
Besides Detian Waterfall, there are many other attractive scenes awaiting your visit, including the Heishui River, Qiaomiao Lake, Guichun Boundary River, Shatun Waterfall, No.53 Mere Stone and numerous cultural relics and rare animals. Abundant rainfall and moderate temperature gives life to the evergreen plants covering the picturesque landscape.
Heishui River
The Heishui River, called Black Water River in English, is ornamented by verdant plants and peculiar hills. The water, of course, is not black in color. It got the name because of the black reflections of trees and hills. When you are boating on the Heishui River, you can see the turning water wheels, the houses of minority Zhuang, the terraced farmland and the working peasants.
Qiaomiao Lake
The Qiaomiao Lake covers an area of about 5,000 mu (824 acres) and is surrounded by green hills. The surface of the lake is very calm like a mirror. The reflections of the hills, trees and clouds are etched on the lake surface, which looks like a picturesque painting. Boat on Qiaomiao Lake, listen to the folk songs and appreciate the clear and bright moon, and you could enjoy a god-given peace out of the earthliness.
Guichun River
The Guichun River originates from Jingxi, Baise, Guangxi. It flows into Vietnam and then goes back to China. The two countries are bounded by this river. On one bank stand the buildings in the Zhuang ethnic minority's style and on the other bank is the outlook of another country. Think about this difference and you find it quite interesting.
Shatun Waterfall
The Shatun Waterfall is another famous waterfall in the scenic area. The fall flows down from seven terraces. Compared with Detian Waterfall, Shatun Waterfall is not so grand and powerful. It looks like a gentle woman associating herself with the enthralling nature.
How to get to Detian Waterfall
1. Take a bus from Nanning Langdong Bus Station to Detian Pubu (Detian Waterfall). The bus departs at 8:30 and 11:30 in the morning and the bus fare is CNY75.
2. Take a bus from Nanning General Bus Station to the waterfall at 8:30, and the returning bus departs at 15:00.
