Located to the north of the Tianfu Square in Chengdu city center, the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum covers a total area of 60,000 square meters (71,758 square yards). There are 20 permanent exhibition areas with more than 600 exhibits. The museum focuses on showing local landforms, ancient projects, and modern achievements of science and technology on five floors.

First Floor
The first floor of Sichuan Science and Technology Museum mainly consists of the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Geological Models, the Ertan Hydropower Station Model, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System Hall, the Aeronautics and Space Exhibition Hall, a 4D Theater, and four temporary exhibition halls.

Using pictures, words, and 3D devices, the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Geological Models vividly present the water circulation system, geological landscapes, local customs, and history of scientific research about the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong areas.

The Ertan Hydropower Station Model is composed of a touch screen system, multimedia devices, and simulations. It centers on the progress of hydropower projects, the significance of hydropower in the national economy, the distribution of China's water resources, and the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System Hall is modeled after the real system. It shows the water flow of the Minjiang River and the major functions of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

Items in the Aeronautics and Space Exhibition Hall not only show the history and basic knowledge of aeronautics, but also present some aeronautics and space principles, such as the principles of flying used for rockets and planes, and the launching, orbiting, and recycling of the Shenzhou spacecrafts.

In the 4D Theater, smoke, fog, light, rain, smell, bubbles and other elements add a unique feeling of realness to the films.

Second Floor
The second floor of Sichuan Science and Technology Museum consists of the Machinery Exhibition Hall, the Material and Energy Exhibition Hall, the Virtual World, the Electricity and Magnetism Exhibition Hall, the Information Society Hall, and the Robot Exhibition Hall.

The Machinery Exhibition Hall focuses on mechanical knowledge, including the cardinal principles of an automobile clutch and the differential mechanism of cars.

The Material and Energy Exhibition Hall contains 10 exhibits about energy, including the simulations of tidal power generators, wave power generators, hydropower generators, and nuclear power plants. There are also 19 exhibits about materials, such as the periodic table of elements, body armor, anti-fake devices, and note printing equipment.

The Virtual World has ten interesting displays. Take the digital treadmill for example. The participant wears a pair of 3D glasses, rides on the treadmill, and races with animals in a virtual environment. It is very exciting.

In the Information Society Hall, you can see 23 exhibits on topics like Bluetooth and GPS technologies.

In the Electricity and Magnetism Exhibition Hall there are 18 displays, showing the phenomena of high voltage discharge, step voltage, and point discharge.

The Robot Exhibition Hall has some fascinating items, like a robot with facial expressions and a robot band.

Third Floor
The third floor of Sichuan Science and Techonology Museum houses the Heaven and Earth Phenomena Hall, the Acoustics and Optics Hall, the Mechanics Hall, the Mathematics Hall, the Bioscience Hall, and the Ecological Environment Hall.

The Heaven and Earth Phenomena Hall allows visitors to learn about the phenomena and principles of mysterious galaxies, to identify directions and positions, and to understand how the coordinates of stars are calculated.

The Acoustics and Optics Hall has 38 exhibits covering topics such as holographic audios and optical materials.

You can see 21 exhibits in the Mechanics Hall. You will be amazed by the foucault pendulum, arch-shell structures, and other interesting items.

There are 34 interesting displays in the Mathematics Hall, such as the Dominos, the circle divided into seventeen equal parts, and the minimal surface. Tourists will be fascinated at the charm of mathematics.

Twenty-three displays can be found in the Bioscience Hall, including the balance test, the tilting hut, and DNA sequencing.

The Ecological Environment Hall has 16 exhibits. They show visitors the importance of building a green home, the mystery of high-yielding hybrid corps, the reality that animals are people’s friends, and some popular technologies used for panda protection.

Fourth Floor
The fourth floor of Sichuan Science and Technology Museum mainly consists of a Robot Workshop, a Popular Science Museum, the Science and Technology Gardens for Children, Teenager Activity Centers, and fantastic shows.

People will enjoy themselves and learn a lot there. They can find a kingdom of ants, a flower clock, a musical fence, a magic weather world, water-screen films, fire fighting drills and so on. Take the kingdom of ants for instance.  Here visitors can get a basic understanding of the structure of an ant cave, how they communicate, their division of labor, and their strength.

Fifth Floor
Seminars and meetings are held in the Academic Hall and the Multifunctional Hall on the fifth floor of Sichuan Science and Technology Museum.

Additionally, the outdoor activity area amounts to about 5,000 square meters (5,980 square yards), and the two-floor underground parking lot is 6,000 square meters (7,176 square yards). Fast food restaurants occupy 600 square meters (718 square yards) and various popular science toys can be bought in a 600-square-meter (718-square-yard) shopping hall. All the facilities provide great convenience for tourists.
