Fire God Temple, also called "Huode Zhenjun Temple", is located outside the Shichahai Area. The temple was built in the Tang Dynasty (AD 632), 1300 years from now. It was renovated and reopened in 2010 and listed as Beijing’s Major Historical and Cultural Heritage Site.
Its double doors are painted vermilion and installed with handles in the shape of lion head, which look antique against the gray walls and tiles. As fire is the most formidable disaster for bookstores selling precious paintings, calligraphy work, copybooks for calligraphy and so on, and during the Qianlong’s reign, there are already many such stores, the Fire God Temple was ordered by Emperor to be built to pray to Fire God for protection.
The main building of the fire temple is well preserved intact. The southernmost end of the temple is Long En Temple, dedicated to Long’en Zhenjun Wang Linguan (Soldiers of Yu-shu fire House in heaven). To the north is the main hall of the fire temple, dedicated to the south fire Dehong star, that is usually the so-called fire ancestors, the God of Fire.
The Temple formed its own unique folk customs and the most influential of which is the June 22nd fire festival.
