Mei Lanfang’s Former Residence which has been preserved as Mei Lanfang Memorial is situated at No.9 Huguosi Street of Xicheng District in Beijing and covers an area of 716 square meters. This building was originally part of Prince Qing’s Mansion and was renovated after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Then Mei Lanfang moved in. Before Mei’s death in 1961, he spent the last decade of his life in the tranquil and comfortable courtyard. Zhou Enlai, the Prime Minister of the State Council then, proposed the establishment of the Mei Lanfang Memorial after Mei Lanfang passed away.
