Shangfang Mountain National Forest Park is located around Hancunhe in Fangshan District, 60 km southwest of Downtown Beijing. It is the only most well-preserved primeval and secondary forest in north China, being one of the 20 National Key Demonstration Forest Parks in 1994.
With over ninety percent of the area covered by woods, the forest park is a natural kingdom of woods and plants. The primary forest and secondary forest which are rare in North China cover a vast area here. Standing on the mountaintop, you can have a panoramic view of Shangfang Mountain.
Since date back to the second year of Emperor Xiaojing (AD 535), some monks had built temples and managed and protected forests in the mountain. The Buddhism culture with more than 1400 years made Shangfang Mountain become the famous natural scenic spot with its classic elegance, wildness and tranquility.
Shangfang Mountain boasts abundant ancient caves with rent size and form among which, nine caves are the most spectacular. Among those nine spectacular caves, Yunshui Cave ranked as the topflight one. It is the earliest cave that began to open to the public in North China, known as “Optimus Prime”.
Characterized by vast area of woods, marvelous karst caves, stupendous peaks, ancient temples, Shangfang Mountain National Forest Park boasts a rare tourism resort in suburb Beijing.
