Shidu Scenic Area is characterized by unique karst landforms. The bedrocks exposed along the valley on both sides of Juma River are almost all of chert belt- and nodule-shaped dolomite or limestone of Mesoproterozoic Wumishan Formation, which are soluble rocks and the basis for the formation of karst topography. It is the largest karst peak forest valley in North China. Blessed with grotesque mountains, graceful water, deep valley, steep peaks, beautiful rocks, and secluded caves, the scenic area combines the grace of the southern China and the majesty of the northern China. It has been crowned with such titles as "the wonders of northern China, "the fairyland on the earth" and "the paradise of the world". Just as each mountain here is precipitous, every ferry boasts clear water and beautiful scenery, against by peaks, rocks, gorges, caves, rivers and ponds, forming an amazing gallery in nature that is of great value for each and every travel.
Shidu Scenic Area enjoys the pleasing semi-humid warm-temperate continental climate, a place warm in winter and cool in summer with an annual average temperature of 11.2 ℃ and the mean annual precipitation of 687.5 mm. The area has pleasant climate, high water quality, high relative air humidity due to the nearby Juma River, good atmosphere quality and first-class air quality with high negative oxygen ion content, and it is thus renowned as the “natural oxygen bar and air conditioner”.
Due to its advantageous geographical location far away from downtown, the area is enjoying high-quality air and water, and became the picturesque Shidu Scenic Area at southwest Beijing. With rich biological resources and high vegetation coverage up to 82%, this is a perfect place for body and mind relaxation.
