The city’s exploding with wine bars – venues that range from "we serve a full menu of food but we really care about wine" to "nobody here but us bottles." Everwines is squarely in the latter camp, with a minimalist, no-fuss approach to making wines available to both the novice and the seasoned oenophile.
If you’d like to buy a bottle to take home, there’s a large selection with a focus on family-owned wineries; prices range from RMB 70-800. If you want to stay and drink, they’ll charge an extra RMB 50 for service. You can also choose from eight wines by the glass (RMB 50-65). So that you don’t have to drink on an empty stomach, they’ll serve up some bread, olives and even Joselito jamon iberico, but not much beyond that. If you don’t want to leave home at all, they’ll deliver too. Everwines’s lack of pretention may disappoint some, but the rest of us will be relieved.
The first full Beijing shop by Everwines, a brand of wine importer and distributor Torres, should be fully open in about six weeks. It will be just up the street from Irish pub The James Joyce and include a retail space, an enomatic machine with eight wines by the glass, and several outdoor areas, including a special patio for those who order pricier bottles. I met Torres’ Alberto Fernandez and Damien Shee at Migas over the weekend and they told me they planned some pre-launch events - bonus Taste of Nations event, please! Everwines also has outlets in Shanghai, Nanjing, Xi’an and Chengdu.
This wine bar and retail shop offers lovely indoor and outdoor seating areas, and a nice collection of international wines. There are 10 wines by the glass, but no food is on offer except packages of luxury Spanish ham. Online ordering and delivery is also available.
